Blog Week 12B

I have learned many things about the writing process while attending the English 1010 class.  The writing process is an important process while writing a paper. There are many different types of tools that can be used in order to enhance is paper. The step that I learned that was the most helpful element of writing is the way I should write their paper. I always got myself in a bind with the introduction and while attending this class I have learned that it is not the introduction which I must write first it is the body. After I write the body paragraph I can write the conclusion and then the introduction. By writing my papers in this way, not only saves time but it also allows me to brain storm all of the ideas or information that I have about a subject and organize it in a way that flows.

Another thing that I have learned while being in this class is that there are different types of tools that I could use that I did not know about to reach a desired audience. Before attending this class I knew that when I wrote papers the teacher would be the only one reading them. This class has taught me that if I would like to get through a desired audience I have to be at their level. I have to use description, compare and contrast, and cause and effect in a manner that my desired audience will understand. I now understand that when writing a paper I have to become more aware of whom I would like my audience to be, besides the teacher.

Blog Week 12A

As one writes an essay one can see that there are several steps to getting to the perfect essay. The first step to writing an essay is to brainstorm all of the ideas or interest one likes or would like to write about. After one is done brainstorming one should write down all of the information down on a piece of paper. All of this information will become the body of paragraphs. The information collected or written down has to get organized.  This means that from all of the information gathered, one has to choose what is important and what is not so important.  While choosing what is important and what is not so important one has to keep their audience in mind. One has to decide what type of theme and language to use to reach their audience.  After the body of paragraph is gathered and put in order, the conclusion can be added. The conclusion consists of a summary of all of the information gathered, in one or two sentences; a thesis that is restated in a clearer way, and a call to action. When the body of paragraph and conclusion is done, one can start on the introduction. The introduction is a road map to what the essay will be about. It has a thesis statement, an expansion of the title, and in the last sentence it has a hint that there will be a transition to the body of paragraph. After all of this is done one will have a rough draft of the essay. At this point one should look over it to make sure that it flows and is in logical order. After one fixes all of things that one found one should have someone else read it to see if they find anything that one did not catch. After all of the fixes are made, one finally has a final draft, which is the final step is done.

Blog Week 11A

Process Essay is a how to manual. It tells us, either by words or by pictures what needs to be done and how to do it. This type of essay is used to explain how something happens. It teaches us how something occurs in a chronological order. It is there to explain all of the whys.  While explaining all of the whys, in numerous ways, it always goes back to the same ending. When teaching someone about something we have to give enough detail for the desired audience to be reached. The more detail one is about what they would like to get across, the more the audience will understand.

The audience is a big part of a process essay. Depending on the audience of a process essay, we must choose the wording. We would not write the same thing to second graders as we would write them to a second grade teacher. The audience has to be able to understand what it is that we would like our audience to do or put together.  When writing a process essay we have to be attentive to who our audience is and how we will get what we need to across.

Blog Week 10B

An introduction is very important when writing any kind of paper. An introduction is usually one paragraph to two paragraphs long and is used to tell the reader what to expect throughout what they are about to read. An introduction has a thesis statement, a more broken down explanation of the title; the thesis statement is an expansion of the tile. In an introduction the goal is to get the readers focus on all of the main points and what the purpose of the writing was or is. The main points in an introduction are called road maps. The road map in an introduction must be clear, not confusing; it must be in order and organized.  After the road map is given, the last sentence of the introduction paragraph(s) will hint what next sentence will be about, and that is where the body begins.  This sentence is called a transition sentence.

An introduction has a set up to grab the attention of the reader by giving a history or background to make it more relevant to the reader.

Introduction Outline

A)     Thesis statement

a.       A more broken down explanation of the title

B)      Focuses the reader

a.       Main points are given

b.      Why this piece was written

C)      Set up

a.       An attention grabber

b.      History/ background (needs to be relevant)

D)     Road Map

a.       Main points

b.      Must be clear and organized, not confusing; simple

E)      Transition to a body paragraph

a.       Last sentence will give a hint of what will happen next.

Blog Week 10A

Classification and division is something that we all do on a daily basis when we are planning out our day.  We first see our day as the whole, and then we classify what is important and what is not so important. We divide our day into sections of time that tell us what we have to do, in what order we have to do them in, and within what time frame we must complete the task. By classifying and dividing our day, we make what is called a priorities list. That means, we make a list with the stuff that is more important as a header and a time; within that header we see what it is that we must accomplish before the given time. As the list goes down the not so important things are there. Like what would be more important A) brushing your teeth before you go out of the house or B) eating breakfast? For some people A would come before B, but for others B would come before A. That is the way that classification and division works.

As we classify and divide, we break down the whole picture to make sense of what is that we already know and what we would like to know. As a writer it is important to classify and divide the whole topic so that way it can be in order. There are topics that are more important than others, just like our daily planning, and there are topics that are just not so important. Classification and division is an important tool that must be used when trying to reach an audience because it will let the reader understand what the writer is trying to tell them.

Blog Week 8B

The article that I choose is called: ANNE BAUER LOOKS BEYOND THE MIRROR by Anne Bauer

Bullying- Is when people use superior strength or influence to intimidate someone, typically to force him/herself to do what one they want.  It is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children and adults that involve a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, of has the potential to be repeated, over time. People that bully and those who are bullied have serious lasting problems.

Frantic- Is a way that we conduct ourselves in a hurried, excited, and chaotic manner, typically because of the need to act quickly.

Riveting- Is to wholly absorb or engross at one’s attention. It is kind of like being fascinated with something.
By expanding these definitions, I hope the reader will become more aware of the true meaning of this article.
